WolfeStreetTravel serves as a photo blog and repository for way too many pictures taken during our travels. Although we don’t have a real agenda for our travel destinations, several interests tend to drive where we go:

History and architecture, particularly in Europe. One of us considered getting a third major in history as an undergrad and this interest persists both in trip planning and our focus while in other countries. As a result, some of the picture captions or contextual details on WolfeStreetTravel tends toward the pedantic. (Despite this acknowledgement, this pattern really shows no signs of abating . . .)

Self-guided bike tours. There really is no better way to see Europe. Seriously. You’re on your own, riding through the countryside at your own pace, unencumbered by luggage. You can stop anywhere you want without worrying about parking a car. Every evening you get to stay in a different place and every morning is the start of a new adventure.

Hanging out in the Caribbean. As a counterpoint to active European trips, WolfeStreetTravel trip destinations also are driven by the need to just drink and read (and smoke cigars) in a relaxing location in the Caribbean. Hopefully, we’ll extend this to the South Pacific in the near future . . .

Traditional European Christmases. There’s nothing better than hot gluhwein and brats in a snowy Christmas market to get into the spirit of the season. Innsbruck earns top spot on our Christmas list, followed by Leipzig, but every European Christmas location offered an authentic experience that we’ve enjoyed.

We began this blog after our 2013 Puglia bike trip because of the demise of Ofoto, where we had posted more than 12 years of international travel photos and meticulously crafted captions, only to have them migrated in an unorganized mass to another photo-sharing service without the captions and context. As a result, most of the earlier trips on the blog are simply collections of pictures with no narrative or captions – we’ll try to repost this information over time, but it’s enough of a struggle just to keep up with posting after current trips . . .

We like beers. We like skiing. We like the Matterhorn. Paradise found.

We’ve also started posting pics on Instagram @wolfestreettravel!

You think travel is compelling? Try completely gutting and exhaustively renovating a 1925 townhouse in Old Town, Alexandria. Check out WolfeStreetProject, which documented the trauma and triumphs of that experience. (Plus, this explains where the random Wolfe Street name came from for the travel blog. . .)

Plus, pics of our amazing hometown of Old Town, Alexandria, are available @wolfestreetproject . . .
