A Prolonged Foray to Europe: Normandy Biking Aftermath – Paris

After our final day of biking in Normandy, we headed to Paris for a day. Fourth time for some of us, first time for others.

Notre Dame, still under renovation:

Statue of Charlemagne et ses Leudes (“Charlemagne and His Paladins”) next to Notre Dame, which depicts Charlemagne; Roland (of the Song of Roland); and Olivier, Roland’s companion. The only problem is that Roland died 22 years before Charlemagne was coronated in 800. . .

IM Pei’s entrance to the Louvre (we did not enter on this trip):

The Tour de France-famous statue of Jean d’Arc, which riders pass every time they emerge from the tunnel on the last stage of the race.

Escargot, but of course:

Champs Elysees (also Tour related, natch):

Last night in France. . .

We stumbled upon the Lady Diana memorial on the way home – she crashed in the tunnel below.

And apparently wandered by the next morning on the way to grab some breakfast, as well. . .

On to the last leg of our Prolonged Foray to Europe! And the one that was not planned at all before we left. . .
